Well, the 180 rule is an important part of cinematography, I have some education in the area. The way it is broken in 74 works because it cuts first to Flagg, a third person entering the conversation. This is one way to safely cross the line. It’s done in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon when some servant enters the room in one of the conversations.

Assuming Simon survives his isolation with Cassie and manages to calm her down I guess that she’ll heat up again nicely when she finally gets back to base.

Put me in the “what are they taking about” category of someone who comes along later, but the flow of the panels seems perfectly natural now. Sardtok – I had never heard of the 180 degree rule. That was an interesting read, thanks man. Also, I think the “On Principle” sequence works because it’s basically a reverse angle shot.

I love Flagg’s “them hills are empty line” coming right after we see that beastie in the hills. Next shot should be a pan up to tentacles on the windshield.

I could be wrong, but I figure Flagg for a lazy, cantankerous, misanthropic misogynist but at least an HONEST one. That is, whatever else he’s guilty of, he wouldn’t tolerate piracy or other unauthorized shenanigans on his patch, if only because it would INCONVENIENCE him.

Flagg strikes me as the sort who views personal inconvenience as pretty near a capital offense. He just wants to sit at his board, growl at his minions in low-key mode all shift, then vent satisfactorily on someone in particular (like Simon) at the end of the day and go home as satisfied as he can be.

Mike – I agree. The 180 rule is one that I think was meant to be broken in the name of composition. For instance, I did it here, and everyone loved it: http://moon-town.com/comic/074-on-principle/ However, in today’s strip, even though I wanted to bookend the composition with Cassie’s helmet, I was not only breaking the 180 rule, but arguably messing with the flow as well. I agree it flows better this way, which is why I flipped it. Of course I’m going to have to go in there and fix the console now because the dials are on the wrong side of the vidscreen. Hopefully I’ll get to that later today.

Wow, this will be odd for people who come along later to see all these notes about things that aren’t there anymore. Oh well. Early bird gets the mistakes.

Whether or not Flagg turns out to be a baddie or not, having to deal with him would induce paranoia in anybody. Saw the original layout and Sardtok’s comment about 180 rule. Gotta admit that at first I didn’t think it was that big a deal. Boy, was I wrong. Flows much better. Like your practical solution also. Keep ‘em coming . . .
