I couldn’t believe a few strips ago when someone evoked the scene from Alien where Sigourney Weaver buckles herself in and blows the alien out the airlock, because I knew this scene was coming up. Nice guess, and I wonder what tipped you off?
So, for better or worse, Simon has crossed another Rubicon -first, he disobeyed Flagg in order to find out what happened to Vin Sinclair, and now he’s tossed an officer of the law out an airlock. He’s really getting in touch with his inner rebel. Makes you wonder what else he’ll be getting into.

Security Agent Captain Cassandra Quinn is on assignment to the mining outpost Luna Seven amid rumors of pirates near the outpost. On her approach to the complex, she saw something moving around on the surface of the moon that shouldn’t have been. During her attempts to verify her visual sighting, a mysterious ship blasted her out of the sky. Her story starts HERE.
Meanwhile, on miner Simon Tripline’s morning commute to work, he sees something strange through a porthole. Shortly thereafter, Simon’s suspicions are aroused concerning the mysterious activities of the base’s top earner, Vin Sinclair, who became separated from the mining party. Simon took off to find him, but found Cassandra instead. He rescued her, but she woke up confused, angry and armed. While they argue, something is watching them.
For a run-down on all the characters, see the NEW READERS page.

. . . and OUT she goes! Simon must like old (from his standpoint) movies to have thought of that one! Looks like Cassandra has some choices to make. If I remember right, she’s only got about five minutes of oxy left . . .
i was just getting used to have cassandra around tripline and now its over already…
cool closeup of the digger
i bet he’S gonna regret having her thrown out sooner or later
Well, can you blame him? She crossed a line there, in a big way. I admire Tripline for having a spine.
I wonder how long it’ll take before Simon has to carry her back inside.
Five minutes doesn’t translate to a whole lot of strips.
What a great shot in the last panel. This is known as a “relationship reset!”
The progression of action in the three panels is tremendous! You go from her focus, to her reaction, to the result of the action. Its very beautifully done. Plus the upward perspective in the last panel is a very nice touch.
Hate to trip and accidentally flush all my atmosphere when grabbing onto that handle…
Well, Quinn had that coming to her! Trip was being all calm and polite and helpful and she just kept pointing her weapon at him and yelling. Just not being a good guest at all.
Now she’ll have to ask politely to come back in, particularly if that tentacled thing we saw a few strips back makes some improper advances.
Thanks for the nice notes, everyone!
Mike – don’t know what had tipped you off. *shrug* This was the scene I had in my head from the moment I decided to have these two meet. Thought I was being *so* clever…
Joe – Thanks for noticing. Trying to make this thing like a film, and that’s how I would have shot it.
Nestor – Yeah, they put that in a bad place. But on the upside, they did put a warning tag on it… heh heh.
Tom – HA! To say the least…
Felix – great to hear from you! And yup, I think Simon had put up with enough.
A lovers quarrel. In SPACE!
Way to take charge. It might not be officially his vessel, but while he’s driving it is. Gotta show respect for the captain or your out on your…..aaaaauuuuugggghhhh!!!!
Love the last panel! Great pacing and I always love that Moon Town color!
I’m so jealous! LOL
But it’s a good kind of jealousy. The kind that makes me want to work harder at being the best artist I can be.
Gorgeous work as usual, each panel succinct, perfectly paced, exciting and intriguing.
The last one looks like it might be from the perspective of some weird tentacled thing.
Thanks, guys. Eddie – you’re one to talk!
In-perspective lettering FTW!
Shannon- hee hee… just saw Duncan Jones’ excellent film Moon, which has some things in common with Moon Town. One neat thing about it was that the titles were done in perspective. Pretty slick. I guess it sorta infected me. Thanks for weighing in!
Ah, but it WAS clever. I don’t know what made me think of that outcome. I guess if I was in a cramped, air filled cabin with an overly aggressive, gun toting female and had nothing at my disposal but a control panel and a hard vacuum outside, it would leave me with at least one option. I thought I was being *so* clever mentioning as a possibility something that, in my opinion at the time, Simon would never do. (Such a nice guy . . .) Guess you proved me wrong . . .
Mike – the funny thing is for you to have thought it would be out of character for Simon, because this scene is specifically the one I thought of when I thought of him. But he has to be pushed… that’s important.
Hope I’m not hogging to much comment space , but, yes, that’s exactly why I think the scene works so well. YOU knew what Simon could do. You built up to this well, I think. For me, up till now Simon has shown some flashes of initiative but on the whole has come across as a bit laid back. But now, like you mentioned, it’s clear that there’s a point beyond which he won’t be pushed, and it fits well with what went before. I have an idea what he might do now that she’s out, but if I guessed right again, you’d think I have your house bugged . . .
IRONY!!!
BTW, I hope Cassie remembers to seal the helmet!
Theorist – look what she’s doing with her right hand…
Well seems that is one problem solved. I imagine next time she sees Simon though that she won’t be in a terribly good mood. Honestly I think it’s good that none of us are Simon Tripline at the moment.
Even at Mars gravity, about 38% Earth gravity, that’s gonna sting! And add in the horizontal speed from the compress air canon affect to boot. Cassie’s tush is gonna smart. Don’t drop your ‘gun’ girlie, there are creepers outside.
I think Simon’s defiance of Flagg shows us readers that he is capable of such a thing. But I am surprised he didn’t give her a chance, to calm down, when she lowered her ‘gun.’ Still a GREAT surprise. Nice!
Love the entire page, Steve. Great stuff as always.
Real nice, Wit! Thanks for the note!
Did you get dug out yet?
Nice! Diffusing would have been so boring.
Art wise, I respect the time saving measure employed here.
